I may have spoken too soon...

Yes, last night was a wonderful night for the kids jumping on their new trampoline and playing in our back yard. But wouldn't you know it- today we had our first injury EVER on a trampoline!

As you can maybe see in the previous pictures, the trampoline is enclosed underground with corrugated sheet metal. Because the top is very sharp, Adam has been covering it with some other material. Unfortunately, he wasn't 100% finished covering the sheet metal. And unfortunately, Dallin somehow found that little spot and sliced a HUGE cut in his heel today.

Ok, I'm getting a little woozy reliving this moment. There was a lot of blood. A LOT! It looked like a crime scene on our back porch.

Luckily Adam was home for a long lunch and was working outside on the playset when it happened. We immediately grabbed some wet rags to hold against his foot, and while Adam held our screaming child in his arms, I drove as fast as I could to Instacare.

We were told that Instacare's policy is "If you bleed, you lead" so even though there were several people in the waiting area, they took Dallin right back before we even filled out any forms.

The doctor was our friend Dan Davie, and he was wonderful throughout the whole ordeal. Dallin screamed his head off the ENTIRE time, even when we were assured that the foot should have been completely numb. I was proud of myself for staying relatively calm at first, but after seeing Dallin in so much pain, I lost it. I'm sure that didn't help him calm down, seeing his mother bawling her eyes out.

Sweet little Audrey just sat in a chair and read books to herself. She watched the Dr. stitch him up and seemed to be fascinated, albeit slightly grossed out.

Adam didn't want me to post this because he felt so bad setting up the trampoline when the sharp edges weren't completely covered. But we know it was just an accident and we are still so happy for all the work he has done, and is STILL doing in our yard. And I had to post something especially after my post just last night!!

So here is Dallin after we got home. He crashed on the couch after only five minutes of Star Wars. We made his favorite dinner tonight - breakfast burritos and smoothies - and everyone continues to fuss over him to help him feel better in any way.

Speaking of Flying...

Sorry if my last post was cheesy and sentimental. I have my moments. But check out these kids "flying" on their new trampoline!!

And I know this picture is horrible quality, but just look at it from far away and you get the idea.

Poor Adam has been literally SLAVING away in this humongo back yard of ours all summer long. Even on the hottest days he is out there working in the hard, red dirt. Just this last week, he layed some sod around the play set (which he has also been busy building- still to be completed). AND he built a metal retaining wall for the trampoline in the ground. AND he has been rototilling for DAYS and DAYS (not exaggerating). All he asks is for some books on CD to listen to on his MP3, and an occasional glass of lemonade. Although tonight he did allude to the fact that he may be enjoying this new back yard in a wheelchair soon, because it's killing his back to do all this work.
But we are sure enjoying the progress of our new yard- thanks Adam!!

I will fly

Today is Audrey's first day of Kindergarten- FINALLY!! She is beyond ready and has been counting down to this day all summer. Last night I laid with her for a few minutes and we talked about school starting and how I'm going to miss her. She handed me a stuffed bunny rabbit and told me to hug it when I feel sad during the day. Very sweet.

Then this morning after she was all ready to go, I heard her asking Adam. "Dad, how do you spell 'I will fly'?" I heard him spelling out the letters to her, but I had no idea why she was asking that question. I came downstairs and saw her holding the big Magna Doodle and just writing different things on it and then erasing it. I still don't know why she asked how to spell "I will fly" but I thought it very poetic considering I was about to send her off to her first day of school.

"I will fly."

I have no doubts that Audrey will love every second of Kindergarten. She will probably come home and tell me about all her new friends she made today. She will be excited to go back again tomorrow, and the next day after that. She will fly.
Now where did I put that stuffed bunny rabbit?
